It is with great pleasure that we invite you to join us in beautiful Bali for the 2026 Australasian Society of Tethered Oral Tissue (ASTOT) Symposium on Tongue-tie, Breastfeeding, and Interdisciplinary Care. Held at the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel & Spa on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th August 2026, this event promises to be a vibrant gathering of clinicians, researchers, and thought leaders from across the globe. Our theme—Islands, Culture and Care—celebrates the richness of place, the diversity of practice, and the shared commitment to improving outcomes for infants and families. Whether you work in dentistry, speech pathology, lactation, osteopathy, medicine, midwifery, nursing, mental health, allied health, or another health profession, this conference offers a unique opportunity for professionals around Australasia to connect, reflect, and innovate together. Set against the backdrop of Bali’s warmth and natural beauty, the program will explore emerging evidence, clinical insights, and collaborative approaches to care. Speakers
Asti Prabornini
Asti Praborini, MD, Pediatrician, IBCLC, FABM, has 35 years of experience as a pediatrician, which has convinced her that nothing is more important and valuable than breastfeeding for both mother and baby. As a national speaker with Perinasia and also now an international speaker, she continues the campaign promoting the benefits of breastfeeding, despite formula marketing that is pervasive in the country. She established the first hospital-based lactation team in Indonesia that works ultimately to help mothers breastfeed their babies and now leads six lactation teams in different hospitals. She is practicing scissor frenotomy for anterior as well as posterior tongue-tie and lip-tie and has established her own method for hospitalization of nipple confusion, supplementation, adoptive nursing, and many others. She also devoted her time to giving pro bono service to the poor in the pediatric clinic of LKC Dompet Dhuafa and received the LKC award in 2011, 2018, and 2021. She is now a Fellow of Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (FABM) and Board of ASTOT.
Donny Mandrawa
Dr. Donny graduated as a general dentist from the University of Melbourne in 1998 and began exploring Orofacial Myofunctional Orthodontics in 2001. Since 2002, he has trained extensively in Dentofacial Orthopedics, Orthodontics, Oral Restrictions, and Airway-focused Myofunctional Dentistry under multidisciplinary experts.
An international lecturer since 2014, Dr. Donny co-founded Myofocus Education in 2017 (departed July 2025) and co-created the Myofocus Take Off Algorithm—the first system delivering individualized Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy prescriptions.
He holds Fellowships with the International Congress of Oral Implantology, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics, and earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics from the London Dental Institute.
Currently, he operates two Melbourne centers, focusing on early intervention in Orofacial Myofunctional Dentistry across Orthodontics, Dentofacial Orthopedics, Dental Sleep Medicine, and Tethered Oral Tissues, treating patients from 2 days to 74 years old.
Yudianita Kesuma
Dr. Yudianita Kesuma, Sp.A(K), M.Kes., is a Pediatric Consultant in Growth and Development from Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia, and the founder of the Love2Grow Growth & Development – Lactation Clinic in Palembang. She serves as a lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya, teaching pediatric residents and medical students in lactation management, oral–motor development, and frenotomy techniques. She pioneered the integration of lactation management into the undergraduate medical curriculum to strengthen early evidence-based breastfeeding education. Clinically, she specializes in the diagnosis and management of ankyloglossia and its impact on growth, feeding, and speech, with extensive experience performing frenotomy in infants and children. Her ongoing research explores the association between folate metabolism, ankyloglossia, and speech difficulties in children. As a national speaker and breastfeeding advocate, Dr. Yudianita frequently delivers lectures and workshops across Indonesia, promoting science-based, family-centered approaches to optimize child growth and development through the power of human milk.
Monica Hogan
Monica Hogan is a PhD Candidate in the School of Medicine & Psychology at Australian National University. Her research is focusing on Wound Healing and Breastfeeding Consequences post Tongue Tie Division. She has been involved in supporting families, mothers and babies for over 30 years and researching in tongue tie for over 20 years. Monica has a background as an Endorsed Midwife, Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
David Todd
David Todd is Associate Professor at the Australian National University (ANU) Medical School and Neonatology Department at The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children, Canberra. Over his Neonatal career, spanning over 45 years, his main research interests have included surfactant deficiency/respiratory distress syndrome, CPAP, chronic lung disease, growth and nutrition. Specific interests within growth and nutrition centre around the importance of human milk including donor breastmilk, breastfeeding (BF) and the impact of tongue ties (TTs) on BF. Whilst working in the UK in 2001, he was involved with the first RCT on the effect of dividing TTs on BF efficacy and efficiency. David has over 90 research publications and over 200 presentations/invited lectures. Since 2006 when he moved to Canberra, he has developed a regular weekly TT clinic where he assesses and divides TTs. He is a founding member of the International Association of TT Professionals (IATP) and the Australasian Society for Tongue and Lip Ties (ASTLiT), now renamed Australasian Society of Tethered Oral Tissue (ASTOT). He is currently the immediate past president of ASTOT.
David Grayson
David is an Otolaryngologist with a special interest in Paediatric ORL. He works full time for the New Zealand Health public service, Te Whatu Ora. David is also a member of the Global Council of The Beryl Institute, a leading institution for improving healthcare experience.
Louise Duursma
Louise is a registered nurse who has worked in a variety of health settings, including as a clinical nurse specialist and nurse manager. Louise is long term volunteer Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) Counsellor, an Honorary Member of ABA, a Baby Friendly assessor, and a IBCLC in private practice in Sydney Australia. In 2021 Louise completed a Master of Research and thesis on tongue-tie classification and women's experience of feeding a baby with tongue-tie and is currently a PhD candidate examining the ‘effects of tongue-tie on infant feeding and outcomes of tongue-tie release’.
